Wiltshire’s Gypsies & Travellers do matter!

WREC has had to tell off Wiltshire Council  who shelved the 2nd phase development of Gypsy & Traveller  sites, so residents of Oak Tree Fields and Diary House Bridge in Salisbury  have had to make do with poor amenity buildings, damp & mould, flooding, rubbish and rats!  Children have nowhere to play and there is no community development. They  last consulted with residents in 2014 when they listed all these problems as recorded in the Wiltshire Gypsy & Traveller Accommodation Assessment (p.17& .54). http://www.wiltshire.gov.uk/wiltshire-gtaa-final-report.pdf

Our condolences

WREC extends our condolences to all those individuals and families affected by the recent terror attacks in London and Manchester.  The people of the UK are not defined by hate and never will be. We offer support to anyone who is affected and wants to find a way to talk about solutions to these problems that we are all facing.  Also if you are a victim of any hate crime, xenophobia, Islamaphobia and anti-Semitism or know of someone who is, please contact us for support in reporting anything that is harming our communities.

How do you feel?

Poor mental health can affect all of us from children to those of working age and older people.

Whether it’s from a traumatizing event, stress at work; worries about money or exam stress, many things can trigger a decline in our wellbeing.  Medical and social support is out there, but can be hard to find, especially if someone is experiencing a crisis.  Get to know your local support services through your local GP or see Avon & Wiltshire Mental Health Partnership http://www.awp.nhs.uk/  to find local group courses to help with common mental health problems see: https://iapt-wilts.awp.nhs.uk/.  Courses include: Managing panic, anxiety and worry; CALM- Introduction to Mindfulness and Wellbeing after Baby.

Getting around should be easier…

Doug Paulley wins ‘wheelchair vs buggy case’ started in 2012 when another passenger with a buggy refused to move out of a wheelchair space on the bus.  Doug was unable to take the bus as the bus driver was unable to get the passenger to move after asking.  Now drivers are obligated to order the passengers to move.  See more on the BBC webpage disability

Hate Crime Rises in the UK

Discussion and freedom of speech is part of democracy, but fanning xenophobia and playing the blame game for our country’s woes, is never a good idea.

“We have a responsibility to stop this rise of hatred and hate crime,” says Yvette Cooper , MP. 14.11.2016  and now, a Government inquiry has started to look at the rise of hate crime since the BREXIT vote. The Home Office Select Committed headed by Yvette Cooper, MP will look at racial and religious hate crimes.
